Ignition announces 2023 Top 50 Women in Accounting

Awards recognize 50 exceptional women who are changemakers in the accounting industry

Sydney, Australia, May 2nd — Fifty inspiring women from across the globe have been recognized today in Ignition’s 2023 Women in Accounting awards. Now in its sixth year, the awards celebrate women who are at the forefront of driving change, innovation and creating a more diverse and inclusive industry.

Nearly 940 women from 14 countries were nominated by their peers, colleagues or leaders for this year’s awards. The top 50 were shortlisted by an esteemed global judging panel, with winners from Australia, Canada, Cayman Island, France, New Zealand, Pakistan, United Kingdom, and the United States.

Ignition Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer Guy Pearson said, “Our winners come from all corners of the globe, and are using their leadership and mentorship to inspire and elevate the next generation of female accountants and accounting professionals. 80% of women in this year’s top 50 made the list for the first time, highlighting the growing contributions of women in the industry and their impact on the community.”

Ignition first launched the Women in Accounting awards in 2018. In 2023, the awards focused on sparking lasting confidence in women leaders and fostering a sense of community.

Charlene Rhinehart, Personal Finance Editor at GoodRx and 2023 Women in Accounting judge said, “When I read the submissions, I was immediately struck by how the top 50 women in accounting were not leveraging their success solely for themselves, but using it to uplift other individuals, communities and the profession as a whole. Whether it was helping someone gain exposure to a new opportunity, or lead an organization to reflect the change they want to see in the profession, the winners did not shy away from giving back.”

Rebecca Mihalic, Director at businessDEPOT, former top 50 winner, and 2023 Women in Accounting judge, also highlighted the diverse industry representation this year, with over 30% of submissions coming from women working in accounting for public and private companies.

“What was particularly inspiring this year was the diversity of roles that was represented in all the submissions. There were women from all facets of accounting in both small and large organizations going out of their way to invest in the next generation of accountants, from tax accountants, bookkeepers, management accountants, to women in public practice and c-suite roles. I'm a firm believer that inspiration and motivation to succeed can come from seeing yourself in your leaders.”

The Top 50 Women in Accounting awards aim to inspire women everywhere to feel confident in their abilities, their leadership, and their potential to make a difference.
