How Proseer built a zero A/R firm from day one
By building Ignition into its technology stack from day one, Proseer has streamlined client engagement, automated payment collection, and gained greater visibility into recurring revenue and cash flow.
"Ignition has given us clarity over our revenue and cash collection, which means we’ve been able to grow the firm and have sufficient cash to be able to do so."
Larry Bernstein, Co-founder and CEO, Proseer
The challenge: Build a modern firm without the inefficiencies of traditional billing
Before co-founding Proseer, Larry Bernstein worked as a director at a Top 100 accounting firm that operated on a traditional time-and-billing model.
When launching Proseer, he wanted to create a different experience for both clients and employees. One of the firm's guiding principles was eliminating surprises and creating greater transparency around services and pricing.
"We wanted to build a firm that had no surprises for our customers and for our people."
Larry had seen firsthand how traditional billing models could create uncertainty for clients. Without a clearly defined scope and pricing structure, clients could be surprised by invoices after work had been completed, creating friction in the relationship.
"The certainty that you get with giving clients a clearly defined scope of services and price before the work begins just generates a much better relationship."
Beyond pricing, traditional engagement processes often required significant manual effort. Preparing engagement letters involved gathering information, passing documents between team members, and reviewing drafts before they could be sent to clients.
"We would collect information for engagement letters, give them to an administrative assistant who would then populate them, and then we would review them. All this stuff took a lot of time."
Like many firms, administrative work around engagement letters, billing, and payment collection consumed valuable time that could otherwise be spent serving clients and growing the business.
The solution: Building a predictable revenue model through automation
Rather than adopting traditional processes and attempting to improve them later, Proseer made Ignition part of its technology stack from the beginning.
“When we started the firm, Ignition was part of the tech stack.”
The firm implemented subscription pricing supported by Ignition's proposal, engagement letter, billing, and payment collection capabilities. This helped Proseer establish recurring monthly revenue and automate payment collection from the outset.
One immediate benefit was a reduction in administrative effort.
"Now we can prepare an engagement letter and send it out to a client and collect payment information within 15 minutes or less."
The firm eliminated time reviewing timesheets and billing time, because Ignition supports its subscription model from proposal through payment.
For Larry, the efficiency gains have been significant enough that he would not return to preparing engagement letters manually.
“I would never want to be preparing engagement letters in Word again. That's for sure.”
"We spend a lot less time reviewing time and billing time because we don't do any of that. We got all that time back."
Predictable revenue and low A/R support growth
Beyond operational efficiencies, Ignition has helped Proseer build a more predictable revenue model, with recurring revenue and consistently low accounts receivable.
"One of the biggest measurables we have seen since Ignition is the fact that our A/R is really low."
Because payments are collected consistently each month, Proseer has greater visibility into cash flow and can make business decisions with more confidence.
"We're collecting our cash usually around the first of the month, every single month, and it's very easy to continue operating like that."
That predictability has given Proseer the clarity to keep growing while maintaining the cash flow needed to support the firm.
"Ignition has given us clarity over our revenue and cash collection, which means we’ve been able to grow the firm and have sufficient cash to be able to do so."
Delivering a modern client experience
Larry credits Ignition with helping Proseer deliver a simpler, more modern engagement experience. Clients can review proposals, sign engagement letters, and provide payment information from the device that suits them.
"It's all just a very modern flow that works on their cell phone or on their iPad or on their computer, wherever they're at. It's easy for them to get engaged."
The firm has begun exploring Ignition's MCP to help compare information across multiple systems more quickly and support more connected workflows.
"Having a way to be able to quickly compare multiple systems together has been great."
Looking ahead, Proseer plans to continue growing with a technology stack that supports transparency, automation, and predictable revenue.
Finally, Larry highlights Ignition's support team as another reason the platform has been valuable to the firm.
"If you ever have any kind of issues or problems, I think they're probably one of the best support groups that we have."
